Conditionals (умовні конструкції або умовні речення) – особливий вид складнопідрядних речень, коли в підрядній частині виражається певна умова, а в головному – наслідки такої умови. Такі речення часто називаються if-sent

Почнемо з того, чи є взагалі різниця між цими словами? Чи не варто навіть забивати собі голову такими нюансами? I learn English, I study English. Зміст той же, але різниця таки є, і інколи вона дуже суттєва. Навіть новачки у вивченні англійської мови не кажуть I learn at school, тут напрошується study.

Одже, study – це процес вивчення. Слово має більш формальне і вузьке значення, чим learn. Якщо ви хочете сказати, що людина вчиться у якомусь навчальному закладі (школа, інститут, університет), треба використовувати саме це дієслово. Якщо ви готуєтеся до екзамену, чи також  study, а не learn. Якщо ви навчаєтеся на когось, ви також використовуєте study.

She studies to become a psychologist – Вона навчається, аби стати психологом.
He studied at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. – Він вився в інституті технологій.
This term students are going to study Shakespeare – В цьому семестрі студенти будуть вчити Шекспіра.

Дієслово tolearn означає здобуття знань, навиків, це не тільки процес навчання, але і результат. Якщо ви навчилися чомусь, ви також скажете це англійською мовою, використовуючи дієслово learn. Також у виразі: дізнатися щось нове (to learn something new) використовується це дієслово. Якщо study  – це навчання свідоме, то learnможе приходити і несвідомо.

Oksana has learned some new Japanese words today. – Оксана сьогодні вивчила декілька нових слів.

A child learns its first language. – Дитина вчить свою першу мову

З наступними прикладами різниця між study  та learn стане ще більш очевидною.

He has been studying all day but he thinks he hasn’t learned anything. Він навчався увесь день, але думає, що так нічого і не вивчив.

One can learn to drive a car without studying it. – Можна навчитися водити автомобіль, не навчаючись цьому спеціально..

Hello everybody! Our today’s lesson is jobs. What`s difference between job and work.

Job is noun. A job is a regular and official activity that you do, and receive money (a salary) for your activity. It is also called a profession or an occupation. You can have a full-time job  or a part-time job.( looking for a job)

The word job is a countable noun.

Work can be verb and noun

The word work is more general than “job” – whereas “job” is a specific occupation/profession, “work” refers to general efforts and activities done to accomplish a goal. “Work” can be done both inside an official job and outside a job!

Work” is an uncountable noun, so it is not used in the plural.

My favorite game is cricket. It is an outdoor game. It is played between two teams. Each team contains 11 players. There are many forms of this game like test match, one day match and twenty-twenty. The "test match" is the longest form of the cricket match. A "test match" is played between domestic as well as international teams.

The team that makes more runs, that team will be the winner. In this game, there are two-part first is batting and the second is bowling or fielding. The team who won the toss that team decides what they want to do first, bowling or batting. Fielding team does bowling to the batsman. Matches contain over and each over contains 6 balls.

Overs depend on the form of a match that what type of it, "One Day" or "Twenty-Twenty". The "One Day" match's overs may vary sometime, but in "Twenty-Twenty" it is always of 20 overs. All Indians adore cricket.

Коли ж слід використовувати той чи інший варіант?

Be going to + infinitive

Рішення приймається в момент розмови:

Julie: There’s no milk. – У нас закінчилося молоко.
John: Really? In that case, I’ll go and get some. – Серйозно? В такому випадку я піду куплю.

Рішення було прийнято перед розмовою:

Julie: There’s no milk. – У нас закінчилося молоко.
John: I know. I’m going to go and get some when this TV programme finishes. – Я знаю. Я піду куплю, коли закінчиться телепередача.

Передбачення, яке засноване на думці:

I think the Conservatives will win the next election. – Я думаю, що консерватори виграють наступні вибори.

Передбачення, засноване на чет-то, що ми бачимо (або чуємо) зараз:

The Conservatives are going to win the election. They already have most of the votes. – Консерватори виграють вибори. У них вже більшість голосів.

Факт в майбутньому:

The sun will rise tomorrow. – Сонце зійде завтра

 

Обіцянки, запити, відмови, пропозиції:

I’ll help you tomorrow, if you like. – Я допоможу тобі завтра, якщо ти захочеш.

 


Ще приклади:

(Дзвонить телефон) Julie: I ‘ll get it!
( ‘I’m going to get it’ звучить дуже дивно, тому що в цьому випадку Julie повинна була б знати, що він задзвонить до того, як він задзвонив).

‘m going to go on holiday next week.
( ‘I’ll go on holiday next week’ слід вживати тільки в тому випадку, якщо рішення було прийнято в момент розмови. Звичайно, такий варіант можливий, але зазвичай відпустка планується заздалегідь).

Додаткова інформація за темою:

Ми використовуємо Present Continuous Tense , щоб підкреслити домовленості в майбутньому. Часто немає великої різниці між вибором ‘be going to’ або Present Continuous. У наступному прикладі різниця в значенні майже не помітна:

‘m going to the cinema tonight.

‘m going to go to the cinema tonight.

Present Simple Tense використовується в двох випадках. Перший: для події за розкладом в майбутньому, наприклад, громадський транспорт або початок занять.

My train leaves at six tonight. – Мій поїзд відправляється в 6 сьогодні ввечері.

His class with english tutor starts at 9am tomorrow. – Його заняття з репетитором англійської починаються о 9 завтра

Другий: після певних слів, коли в реченні йдеться про майбутнє. Такими словами є before / after / as soon as / until / when :

I’ll call you when I get home.

She’s going to study after she finishes dinner.

Please drink some water as soon as you complete the race.

People call Leonardo da Vinci one of the brightest people who ever lived. He was a man with many special talents. Da Vinci became the best-known painter of this time. Most people now agree that Leonardo da Vinci painted two of the greatest pictures of all time. One of them, the Mona Lisa, shows the face of a young woman with an unusual smile. The other is the famous Last Supper.

Складіть чернетку з усіх фактів, які бажаєте вказати в резюме і розповісти про себе. Розбийте їх на частини, з яких буде складатись ваше резюме: Personal Statement, Education, Work Experience (Work History), Skills, Personal Details.

Крок 2 Personal Statement

Це – найважливіша і найскладніша частина. Найважливіша, тому що формує першу думку про вас, як про особистість і спеціаліста. Найскладніша – тому щоPersonal Statement  – це єдина частина резюме, де потрібно писати повними реченнями, а не у форматі списку, як у розділах про роботу та освіту. Якщо писати повними реченнями, то ймовірність допустити граматичні ті інші помилки, збільшується.

Отже, що писати у Personal Statement? Вкажіть, хто ви, підсумуйте свій попередній досвід та напишіть до чого прагнете. Розмістіть розділ Personal Statement на початку резюме: після контактної інформації (адреса, номер телефону, імейл та ін) та перед основною частиною резюме (освіта, робота).

Цю секцію ми часто ігноруємо і відразу переходимо до опису освіти та попереднього досвіду роботи. Однак Personal Statement не просто підсумовує ваш досвід, а швидше формує уявлення про вас, як про особистість, привертає увагу до  вас і вашого резюме і, щонайважливіше, спрощує роботу рекрутера. Якщо у резюме немає Personal Statement рекрутер повинен самостійно складати загальну думку про вас, щоб зрозуміти, яка ви людина і запам’ятати вас. Зробіть це за нього. Сформуйте думку, яка вигідна вам!

Ось мій власний Personal Statement:

I am a fun-loving teacher of English based in Lviv, Ukraine. In my work, I divide my time between teaching English at Logos IT Academy and working on my PhD thesis​. Besides, I run my own blog at talkstudio.com.ua and share my passion for all things English.

I specialize in teaching speaking and listening skills via using social media. My goal is to inspire, to challenge, to excite my students and help them enjoy the whole experience of learning.

У Personal Statement позиціонуйте себе як активна людина. Використовуйте активні дієслова: “developed“, “organised” or “achieved“. Замість ‘I was responsible for a new system’  напишіть ‘I devised and implemented a new system. На перший погляд – дрібниці, але саме такі деталі говорять про нас найбільше.

Маленька підказка по часах:

  • якщо дія завершилась у минулому, використовуємо Past Simple (trained and mentored junior programmers in programming methodologies.)
  • якщо займаєтесь чимось зараз, то – Present Simple (train and mentor junior programmers in programming methodologies.)
  • якщо кажете, що займались чимось від якогось часу в минулому і дотепер, то Present Perfect (Since June I have trained and mentored junior programmers in programming methodologies.)

Часи, артиклі і порядок слів в реченні – найчастіші помилки у англомовному резюме, та й у будь-якому іншому письмі. Це й не дивно. В українській мові всього 3 часи, а не 12. А артиклів і строгого порядку слів взагалі немає. От ми і плутаємось
